About the Role

We are excited to share an opportunity for the role of Laboratory Manager, Australia. This is a full time, permanent position that can be based at either our Berri Estate or Rowland Flat facility.

 

Leading a team of 5 direct reports and a broader laboratory team of approx 40, you'll be responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and technical integrity of Vinarchy’s analytical and microbiology laboratories.  

 

This includes ensuring compliance with NATA accreditation requirements (ISO/IEC 17025), driving continuous improvement, maintaining high-quality testing standards, and supporting the business with timely and accurate analytical services. 

 

You’ll bring the expereince to apply the foundations of international laboratory standards across our Australian wine-testing laboratories, whilst driving consistency, credibility, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the national laboratory strategic direction, including innovation initiatives and process improvements.
  • Drive automation and technology adoption to enhance efficiency and expand testing capabilities.
  • Manage laboratory budgets, capital projects, and equipment procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with NATA accreditation standards (ISO/IEC 17025) and oversee audits and assessments.
  • Maintain and improve the Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS), including method validation and documentation.
  • Lead risk management practices, including hazard identification, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Provide technical leadership in analytical chemistry and microbiology, supporting method development and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, QA, and Production on technical investigations and product development.
  • Build and develop a high-performing laboratory team through coaching, training, and competency assessments.
  • Foster effective communication across departments and promote engagement in professional scientific communities.

 

Other requirements

  • Some busines travel may be required from time to time.
  • Be prepared to take additional traing to complement requirements of the position.
  • Occassional out of hours work may be required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or related scientific discipline
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in a laboratory management role, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience maintaining NATA accreditation and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance
  • Strong technical knowledge in analytical and microbiological testing
  • Experience with LIMS and other laboratory automation systems
  • Project Management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skill
