Role Details
The Vintage Winemaker assists the Winemaking team with intake, juice processing, fermentation management, and decision-making on processes associated with vintage operations. The role performs winemaking duties in a safe and responsible manner, requiring minimal supervision, with the successful candidate demonstrating a strong commitment to standard quality systems in the context of wine style, quality, and production.
The position contributes to the Vinarchy Australia’s vision and mission and strives for continuous improvement in all that we do. It aims to achieve best practice, find new and better ways, leave our place better than we found it and contributes to creating a place where you want to work.
Your Key Accountabilities
• Ensure winemaking procedures are followed and promote practices that enhance wine quality.
• Actively participate in all aspects of wine production as directed by the Winemaking Manager.
• Serve as a key technical contact between the Winemaking and Cellar teams, providing support on quality and logistical matters.
• Assist in the management and monitoring of fermentations as directed by the responsible Winemakers.
• Conduct fining trials on vintage juices.
• Generate wine and ferment additions operation notes, grape intake records, and general cellar operation notes as agreed with the Winemaking team.
• Report all relevant production issues to the appropriate Winemaker or Winemaking Manager.
• Develop and maintain operation notes pertaining to daily intake, pressing, and centrifugation plans as required.
• When required, prepare daily reports for the Winemaking or Cellar teams summarising shift performance, achievements, and any issues.
• Assist with other winemaking duties as required.
Communication
• Liaise and communicate effectively with staff in a clear and effective manner as required.

Other Accountabilities Include
Your Knowledge and Skills
• Tertiary level qualification or studying toward a tertiary qualification in Viticulture & Oenology.
• A sound knowledge of Wine Industry Standards / Codes of Practice.
• Strong ability to evaluate wine quality.
• Previous experience in facets of the Winemaking process, particularly vintage operations and experience in supervision of Cellar staff.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software.
• The ability to work in a self-directed manner and as part of a team.
• Possess initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly developed observational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience using Vintrace winery management software.

Physical and Other Requirements
• Flexible working hours - ability to work shift work, weekends and overtime as directed by the Winery Manager – Rowland Flat.
• Ability to travel intra / interstate as required.
• Prepared to take additional training to complement the requirements of the position.
