About The Role

We’re looking for a Red Winemaker to join our team at Berri Estates. This role supports the Senior Red Winemaker and plays a key part in producing high‑quality red and fortified wines for our global portfolio.

 

You’ll be hands‑on across the full winemaking process - from grape intake to bottling - and work closely with Cellar, Laboratory, Packaging and Viticulture teams. You'll also contribute to daily operations, planning, decision‑making and continuous improvement across the site.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee receival and evaluation of red grape intake and vineyard assessments to meet quality and style requirements.
  • Monitor red fermentations and provide technical direction to support optimal outcomes.
  • Lead daily ferment tastings and generate accurate work orders for cellar teams.
  • Manage red wine blending, additions, filtrations, bulk movements and storage to meet quality and volume needs.
  • Prepare red wines for packaging ensuring all specifications and deadlines are met.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly work planning and translate plans into clear instructions for operational teams.
  • Support continuous improvement projects focused on efficiency, quality and sustainability.
  • Build strong working relationships across Winemaking, Cellar, Laboratory, Packaging and Viticulture.
  • Maintain accurate records for bulk and bottled wines

About Your Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Oenology, Wine Science or a related field.
  • At least 5 years hands‑on winery or winemaking experience, including strong exposure to red styles.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver wines of consistent and recognised quality.
  • Confident management of red winemaking processes including fermentation, blending, bulk wine movements and packaging preparation.
  • Comfortable working with winery quality systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, quality systems and workplace safety.
  • Collaborative communicator able to work across multiple teams and mentor junior staff.
  • Composed, reliable and organised, with a commitment to continuous learning.
