About the Role
An opportunity has come up with us for a permanent Assistant Winemaker to join our Marlborough Winemaking team. We are seeking a positive, experienced and self-motivated individual to join our dynamic Marlborough Winemaking team.
To be successful in this role you will need to be ready to step into the Assistant Winemaker role and hit the ground running, with a can-do attitude, enthusiasm, have problem solving skills, to be hard working and have the ability to thrive in a continuous improvement environment with a safety focus. You should have a practical aptitude and good communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
To assist in the day to day winemaking activities at the Vinarchy Marlborough Winery and to ensure the quality, cost-efficiency, legal and technical requirements for the various brands and wines produced are achieved.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Assist the Winemakers to ensure all wines meet the quality, analytical and legal specifications of the company.
 - Assist the Winemakers to drive and develop the winemaking operations in order to achieve quality improvements, cost reductions and time efficiencies.
 - Assist the Winemakers to solve technical/processing problems as they arise.
 - Assisting in planning and day to day operation of the Winery.
 - Creating and updating cellar work orders.
 - Fermentation monitoring/control and tasting.
 - Ensuring satisfactory storage conditions for juice and wine, i.e.: temperature, ullage, dissolved oxygen levels, SO2 levels, aerobic film development, etc.
 - Regular checking on cellar operations to ensure maintenance of quality standards and performance.
 - Assessment and review of operational guidelines for the use of winery equipment.
 - Managing the transfer of bulk wine to Auckland for bottling or between regional wineries.
 - Requesting analyses as required from the Laboratory.
 - Instigating suitable action based on laboratory analysis results, e.g. PMS additions
 - Maintain accurate records of inventory, blends, procedures
 - Maintain the security of key technical information and procedures.
 - Maintain the integrity of the computer system in accordance with the role of Winemaking Assistant and subject to Vinarchy corporate guidelines on computer use.
 
What You’ll Bring
- A team player with a positive ‘can do’ & flexible attitude
 - Computer literate with good numerical, written and verbal communication skills
 - Skill in maintaining excellent internal and external relationships
 - Proficient with technology including Microsoft 365 applications
 - Degree in Viticulture & Oenology (Wine Science)
 - Previous experience working in a similar sized winery
 - Good problem-solving skills
 - Have good attention to detail
 - Be systems focused with a commitment to safety and continued quality improvement
 - A good sense of humour
