About the role
To support the wider vineyards operations team and technical Services team to maintain regional standards for all canopy management tasks, undertaken by Contract labour teams. Perform day to day quality assurance checking, data collection, work planning and reporting, disease monitoring on the corporate vineyards in Marlborough.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Vineyard Activities:
Carry out day to day vineyard tasks as directed, safely, effectively, and efficiently, using viticultural best practice. Duties may include:
• pest and disease monitoring
• Summer and winter young vine training
• Quality assessment (QA) of all pruning and wrapping tasks across the Marlborough vineyards
• Hand harvest - QA of hand picking standards
• Yield monitoring and assessment
• Harvest grape sampling
• QA of bud rubbing, wire lifting, shoot thinning, second set, crop thinning and leaf plucking
• Planting vines
• Soil and leaf sampling
• Assessing the efficacy of canopy sprayers using spray papers
Planning and Problem Solving:
• Plans efficient use of own time on the job.
• Ensures programmes of work completed effectively and efficiently.
• Keeps diary of key activities / learning in seasonal aspects of vineyard management.
• Able to problem solve simple problems that occur and action a solution.
• Data collection, management and work planning and reporting as required
Teamwork:
• Assists Management and other staff members to achieve quality and yield targets.
• Assists on other company vineyards within the region as required
• Fosters and enhances co-operation by working constructively with team members.

What You’ll Bring:
Essential:
• Ability to work with an IPad and use email applications to effectively communicate and time manage.
• Good understanding of viticultural practices
• Growsafe Certificate.
• Accepted level of literacy and numeracy.
• Vineyard equipment handling ability.
• Ability to relate well to other staff and an ability to work as part of a team.

• Strong work ethic.
Desirable:
• Basic understanding of plant physiology and nutrient disorders
• Basic First Aid Certificate.
• Approved Handler Certificate.
• Certificate or Diploma in Viticulture / Horticulture (Level 2) or (Level 4).
• Demonstrated vineyard experience.
• Mechanical inclination / aptitude.
• Able to work without supervision.
• Interest in viticulture and wine.
Special Conditions (if any):
• Hold and maintain full NZ driver’s licence.
